To provide a traversing device capable of suppressing height dimension for making a pallet escape when a traversing driving portion moves forward and backward.SOLUTION: A traverse device comprises: a traversing driving unit supporting a pallet from below and making the pallet traverse; a forward and backward driving unit moving the traversing driving unit forward to a hoistway or moving the traversing driving unit backward from the hoistway; a guide unit regulating forward and backward movement of the traversing driving unit when the traversing driving unit moves forward and backward by the forward and backward driving unit and a control unit controlling so as to make the traversing driving unit move backward from the hoistway when the pallet moves up and down, and to make the traversing driving unit move forward to the hoistway, to support the pallet when the pallet traverses. The forward and backward driving unit is configured to make the traversing driving unit move forward and backward in a horizontal direction by a rotational power.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
