To provide a sedimentation basin which enables efficient collection of sand, and to provide a sand collection method.SOLUTION: A sedimentation basin 2 includes: a main trough 8 provided at a basin bottom part and extending in a predetermined direction; a trough first discharge port 831a which discharges a fluid in the predetermined direction in water accumulated in the main trough 8; a bottom flat surface 71 provided at the basin bottom part and connected to the main trough 8; a discharge port 911 which discharges a fluid for causing sand accumulated on the bottom flat surface 71 to flow from the side wall W side of the sedimentation basin 2 toward the main trough 8 into the atmospheric air; and a first cover member 13 which covers a periphery of a vertical axis extending from a center of the trough first discharge port 831a in the predetermined direction and has an opening 13a at a lower end portion.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
