To provide a pile driver having a hydraulic circuit for outrigger jack control capable of allowing an appropriate elongation force to act on all outrigger jacks to such an extent that a crawler-type base machine is not elevated by a simple operation, and a method of using the pile driver.SOLUTION: A hydraulic circuit 61 includes: a ground circuit 71 branched from a telescopic circuit 63 between a hydraulic pump 62 and a control valve 60 for outrigger jack expansion and contraction switching via a solenoid switch valve 72; a relief valve 73 disposed in the ground circuit, which opens when the hydraulic pressure of the ground circuit exceeds a predetermined ground hydraulic pressure, and causes the telescopic circuit and a return circuit 65 to communicate with each other via the ground circuit; and a changeover switch 74 which switches the solenoid switch valve between a communication state in which the telescopic circuit and the ground circuit are caused to communicate with each other and a shutout state in which the telescopic circuit and the ground circuit are shut off from each other.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
