To provide a method for producing a catalyst having excellent catalytic performance.SOLUTION: The method for producing a catalyst comprises the steps of: kneading an active metal-containing solution and hydraulic alumina to obtain a first kneaded product; drying the first kneaded product; further kneading the dried first kneaded product, a binder, and a liquid component to obtain a second kneaded product; molding the second kneaded product to obtain a molded product; firing the molded product to obtain a catalyst carrier; subjecting the catalyst carrier to a degassing treatment; and making the catalyst carrier subjected to the degassing treatment carry an active metal.SELECTED DRAWING: None
