To provide a method for producing a dispersant that can impart excellent freeze-thaw resistance to a hardened body of a hydraulic composition.SOLUTION: In a method for producing a dispersant for a hydraulic powder, a monomer containing a monomer (A1) and a monomer (A2) represented by the following formula is reacted in a reaction medium containing water to obtain a copolymer. In the production method, (A1) and (A2) are used at a ratio of (A1) to the sum of (A1) and (A2) of 20 mass% or more and 28 mass% or less, and the concentration of solids in the reaction medium is controlled to 40 mass% or less from the time the total amount of (A1) and (A2) is introduced into the reaction medium until the reaction is completed.SELECTED DRAWING: None
