To improve safety when an entrance door is opened.SOLUTION: A mechanical parking device includes: a passenger compartment 7 for performing at least one of entry and exit of a vehicle; an entrance door 4 provided at an entrance of the passenger compartment 7; an external detection sensor 34 for detecting a person or vehicle in a predetermined monitoring area provided near the entrance door 4 outside the passenger compartment; and a control device for opening the entrance door 4 when no person or vehicle is detected by the external detection sensor 34. The control device stops the opening operation of the entrance door 4 when a person or vehicle is detected in the monitoring area while the entrance door 4 is being opened.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
