본 발명의 실시예에 관한 쇼벨은, 암폐쇄조작을 포함하는 암굴삭조작에 따라 굴삭을 행하는 쇼벨로서, 암굴삭조작이 행해진 것을 검출하는 굴삭조작 검출부(300)와, 쇼벨의 자세를 검출하는 자세 검출부(301)와, 쇼벨의 자세에 근거하여, 굴삭반력에 의하여 쇼벨이 끌려갈 때의 그 굴삭반력에 대응하는 암실린더(8)의 보텀측 유실(8B)의 압력을 제2 허용최대압력(P)으로서 산출하는 허용최대압력 산출부(302)와, 암굴삭조작이 행해질 때에, 제2 허용최대압력(P)을 넘지 않도록 암실린더(8)의 보텀측 유실(8B)의 압력을 제어하는 암실린더압 제어부(304)를 구비한다.
