Provided is an electronic key system for a vehicle. The electronic key system for a vehicle is provided with an onboard device (110) and a portable device (200), and performs a predetermined control process on the vehicle on the basis of successful verification by wireless communication between the vehicle-mounted device and the portable device. When a verification signal is received, the portable device transmits a response signal corresponding to the verification signal. When an operation detection unit detects a user operation, the portable device transmits an instruction signal for controlling the locking state of a door of the vehicle. The output level of a response signal by the portable device is smaller than the output level of an instruction signal.
