The invention relates to a former tray assembly which is most commonly, although not necessary exclusively used to form a floor area of a shower and which is connected to a drainage system in order to allow liquid from the shower to be removed from the shower area. The invention also relates to the former tray and a method of installing the same. The former tray is provided with an access aperture or portion of an aperture which can be selectively used, particularly during the installation of the assembly to allow connection and testing of the connection to the drainage system. When completed, a plate can be positioned to close or substantially close the said access apertures and form the upper surface of the former tray. Another plate, in one embodiment, can include a drainage aperture and can be selectively positioned in an aperture or portion of an aperture on the former tray.
