Colonial National Historical Park, Virginia: Ballard House, Architectural Data
This architectural study complements historical research already accomplished for the early eighteenth century Ballard House, Colonial National Historical Park, in Yorktown, Virginia. The many nineteenth and twentieth century alterations to the house, as well as its original form, are identified in narrative detail on the basis of existing physical evidence. The author also indicates areas where structural history cannot be explained. Since the house has been significantly altered and is not architecturally or historically of national significance, adaptive restoration is proposed and alternatives for its accomplishment suggested. Sketches of detail are included in the report. Accompanying measured drawings can be obtained from the National Park Service Denver Service Center, for which an address is given.
