Archeological Investigations Associated with the Federal Land Highway Program, Ozark National Scenic Riverways, 1985
An archeological crew from the Midwest Archeological Center conducted investigations at five locations in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways during 1985. The preconstruction survey and excavations at these locations were in response to planned Federal Land Highway Program road improvements at Chubb Hollow, Gooseneck, Powder Mill, Pulltite, and Round Spring. Excavations were conducted at Chubb Hollow, Gooseneck, and Pulltite. Additional surveys were conducted at the Pulltite campgrounds, at Powder Mill, and at Round Spring. The present discussion is primarily concerned with the excavations at the Chubb Hollow site (23CT104) and the Pulltite site (23SH94). The Chubb Hollow site represents an intact, multicomponent site which has been intermittently occupied by prehistoric peoples from the Late Archaic to the Mississippian periods. The site is a small resource extraction station. The Pulltite site is an intact, single component Late Archaic site. It represents a temporary, intermittently occupied resource extraction station.
