Research on Composite Silicate Dental Cement
The ultimate goal of this project is to make available to dentistry a new series of silicate cements which will possess the desirable properties and also have long term mechanical and aesthetic stability; in short, produce a permanent silicate cement. The approach is to conduct research toward the understanding of the setting mechanism of silicate cement and use this information as a guide to cement forming systems. The second step is to rate the glasses of those systems as a function of the properties of cements formed from those glasses. The next step is to prepare the most promising cements and do detail testing on their value as dental cements. The findings have been encouraging and new materials are currently being tested in the laboratory. (Author)
