Procedures for Determining the Load-Carrying Capacity of Flexible Pavement Airfields by Comparing Airfield Strength Requirements
The strength of an existing flexible airfield pavement structure can be compared with the supporting strength required by an airfield for a given number of operations. Such a comparison is made by defining the strength-depth profile of an airfield in terms of an airfield strength consisting of a series of letters and numerals that represent strength ranges, and by comparing this strength code with an aircraft strength-requirement code that defines the strength-depth profile that an airfield must have in order for the aircraft to perform its stated mission.
