Construction Lost-Time Injuries: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Data Base 1984-1988
The report presents an analysis of data from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) accident investigation reports for 2,578 lost-time construction injuries and fatalities occurring at/on USACE projects within the continental U.S. for the period 1984 through 1988. Specific information for the analysis was obtained from excerpts from the United States Army Corps of Engineers Safety Information Management System (SIMS) data base provided by the USACE Headquarters Safety and Occupational Health Office. The analysis considered variations in the number of injuries over the 5-year period and the influence of factors such as phase of construction, construction trade, and worker age on the injury statistics. Data from the study are compared with results of recently completed OSHA analysis of construction injury data based on the workers' compensation data base in the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Supplementary Data System (SDS).
