Review of Soils Design Construction and Performance Observations, Wister Dam Oklahoma
Wister Dam is a rolled-earth-fill structure, comprising a 5700-ft-long main embankment, a spillway and outlet works, and a 2400-ft-long dike. The main embankment has a maximum height of 97.5 ft above the stream bed, and the dike has a maximum height of 40 ft above natural ground. Over-all, the main embankment and dike contain about 2,500,000 cu yd of fill. The report is concerned principally with the main embankment since the spillway and outlet works are founded on firm rock, and the dike did not present any design or construction problems of interest. Investigations made for design of the main embankment and data obtained are described, the design analysis is reviewed, construction procedures and field observations made during and after construction are summarized, and comparisons are made of design predictions and performance data.
