Pavement Design, Performance, and Rehabilitation
This record deals with design, performance, and rehabilitation of both concrete and asphalt pavements. The papers should be of interest to design engineers and those involved in pavement research. A significant development in recent years has been the application of systems concepts of pavement design and management. Pavement design and management systems consist of coordinated sets of activities or subsystems that should produce an optimum design strategy for a given set of circumstances. These systems may include subsystems for inputs, such as traffic and materials properties, for structural thickness selection, and for selection of an optimal design strategy including possible future rehabilitation activities. Three papers in this record deal with fairly complete subsystems. Others deal with certain phases of the many activities involved.
