St. Louis District Historic Properties Management Report Number 44. A Phase 1 Archaeological Survey for the Wappapello Lake Road Relocation Project, Wayne County, Missouri. Cultural Resource Management Report Number 260
This report describes the results of two Phase I archaeological surveys for the proposed Wappapello Lake Road Relocation project in Wayne County, Missouri. The project area falls within the Upper St. Francis Study Unit in southeastern Missouri. The work was carried out by American Resources Group, Ltd., under terms of a contract with the St. Louis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. More than 250 acres of land to be impacted by proposed road relocations, and 150 acres of proposed borrow areas were surveyed. This survey located three prehistoric sites, two historic sites, two sites with both prehistoric and historic components, and five isolated finds. Prior to this survey, seven previously recorded sites were known to exist in the vicinity. Of these, only three were relocated.
