Scotts Creek Project, Newberry County, South Carolina
Construction is proposed on receipt of funds, of a flood control project consisting of clearing and snagging in Scotts Creek and its tributary, North Fork Scotts Creek, from the outlet of Scotts Creek to a point 1.94 miles upstream and enlargement in the North Fork from this point to a point 2.42 miles further upstream. The bottom widths of the enlarged channel segments will range from 20 to 28 feet. Two bridges will be replaced and the openings under other bridges will be cleaned out and enlarged. Environmental impacts are: Containment of flood flows within bank and the prevention of flood damages, slight alteration of flow regimen of Scotts Creek and Bush River, and slight increase of water turbidity during periods of high flow. Temporary impacts of a minor nature which are expected during and shortly after construction include an increase in turbidity and sedimentation of project channels and Bush River, increase in dust and noise levels during actual construction activities, and traffic congestion during construction of new bridges or repairs on existing bridges. Minor increases in water turbidity and sedimentation rates, temporary increases in dust and noise levels during actual construction, and minor traffic congestion during bridge construction and repair are expected.
