Relocation of L. R. 40047, Section B03, Yatesville Connector, Pittston City, Pittston Township, Yatesville Boro, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania
The report describes the proposed arterial facility, a two (2) lane roadway consisting of 2-12' lanes and 2-10' paved shoulders. In anticipation of future needs a four (4) lane right-of-way will be acquired as recommended by the Lackawanna-Luzerne Transportation Study. The total alignment is 1.47 miles in length adhering to the Urban Design Criteria for a Connector-Arterial as developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Beginning in Pittston City at the intersection of Main Street (L.R. 5) with Plank Street (L.R. 40038), the project will be constructed in an easterly direction through undeveloped land. The roadway would terminate at existing L.R. 40047 in the vicinity of the Quackenbush Industrial Park. Some scattered development is encountered through this area. The relocation of L.R. 40047 through open land would benefit the region by removing a form of environmental pollution. Strip mine holes would be backfilled and spoil banks removed in conjunction with the proposed construction. The relocation would open this land to future development which, along with landscaping of the roadway, would alleviate the unsightly conditions in the area. No adverse environmental effects should result from the construction of the roadway.
