Mechanics of Pile Reinforcement for Unstable Slopes
An analysis of a pile subjected to lateral soil movements has been outlined and used to investigate the behavior of a pile in an unstable slope. Attention has been centered on the response of the pile and the modes in which the pile may be considered to have failed. A realistic example has been employed to illustrate the effects of a number of pile and soil parameters. The importance of assessing the likely deformation magnitude and pattern, which is a natural consequence of the analysis used here and is not available from limit state equilibrium analyses, is highlighted.
