Theoretical aspects and engineering geological forecast on the shores of karst reservoirs
Summary Karst processes taking place on the shores of reservoirs and associated phenomena are of great interest when studying the engineering geological situation of the region chosen for dam construction. The processes are important from the viewpoint of filtration leakage control and the forecast of the shore-retrogressing process and land stability by construction of industrial and civil projects. The problem under consideration is the dynamics of karst massif formation under reservoir conditions. Three stages are singled out. Interaction between the processes of solution and suffosional removal of the filling material of karst cavities is shown. The authors describe the characteristic features of the processes taking place in sulphate and carbonate rocks. To evaluate the time of collapse and volume of shore retreat special formulae are used.
