Conclusions 1. The use of chloride salts solves quite successfully the problem of seasonal construction of good quality fills of soft soil. 2. The operations for preparation of artificially salted soil are easily mechanized and proportioning of the salt is sufficiently simple. Stocking of borrows of such soil should be preceded by experiments on the freezing and thawing of soil with different quantities of salt for the purpose of determining the minimum necessary specific consumption of salt. 3. Moraine soil can be dumped in layers in the winter by using chloride salts for thawing the contact and by allowing freezing of the remaining part of the layer. 4. In the operating methods tested the cost of salt comprises the bulk of the cost increases and therefore, the economic indices of using chemical methods of frost protection can be improved by decreasing the specific consumption of salt.
