Consclusions 1. The experience of placing 280,000 m3 of moraine soils in the dam core at the Serebryansk station No. 1 during the 1967–1968 winter proves the technical possibility and economic experdiency of the method of winter wet placement of moraine soil with heating of water in ponds and insulation of their surfaces which was developed by Sevgidrostroi. 2. The method described does not require the utilization of any special mechanisms and materials. 3. The method of winter soil placement must be perfected in the following direction: decrease in the cost of insulating the pond surface, use of temperature and wind velocity forectst for a more accurate maintenance of the prescribed temperature conditions in the pond, and determination of the most effective methods of protecting the surface of the borrow pits against freezing.
