Seismic and Energetic Study of Infill-Wall Prototype: Seismic Aspects
Recent seismic events have highlighted the high seismic vulnerability of the non-structural elements as masonry infill walls. In Italy, more interventions were dedicated to damage recovery of this elements.
Moreover, considering that the masonry infill walls of reinforced concrete frame structures of existing buildings, built around the years ‘70 represent most of the existing heritage and that they have significant energy deficits, the need to intervene both from the point of view of seismic and energy is evident.
In Reggio Calabria, a research activity was undertaken to define an innovative plaster for integrated seismic and energetic retrofit.
In this paper the seismic aspects of a prototype of infill wall consisting of an innovative plaster is studied; in detail, the results of the analyses carried out on a traditional plaster are compared with those of an innovative anti-overturning system.
In the other paper presented at the same conference, the energy aspects are discussed. The dimensioning and the verifications are carried out according to Italian codes. The results highlight the effectiveness of these methods of retrofit (compatible and sustainable) for the seismic and energy improvement of masonry infill walls.
