Implementing Appropriate Technology for Empowerment of Women in Indian Villages – A Case Study
This chapter describes a case study of several smart village–focused implementations in Salem district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, based on a framework developed and sustained by the Sona Group as part of its mission to bring economic prosperity to rural India. The framework consists of science and technology interventions in the areas of Agriculture, Healthcare, Skill Development, Off-grid Energy Generation, Waste-to-Wealth Generation as well as Empowerment of Women and the Differently Abled. This chapter will help various stakeholders to understand the process of creating and implementing various innovative solutions in smart villages, such as making agriculture more sustainable by reducing waste and stabilizing prices, producing eco-friendly power to reduce dependence on the grid and by converting industrial waste to wealth.
