Abstract This paper describes the results of field observation of ship motion in rough weather conditions. Ships investigated are general cargo ship of 2,000dwt, 2,500dwt, 6,800dwt and 48,000 dwt. Some investigations were carried out in conditions with wind speed of more than 20m/s. Some differences on the characteristics of motions have been observed for the different ships.
