Laser Beam Welding Fume Propagation and Seam Properties
Abstract Flow visualization experiments are performed to examine the processing gas flow and the propagation of the fumes during laser beam welding of metals as a function of various processing variables. The influence of the processing gas flow, given by the arrangement of the gas supply, on the propagation of the fume plume is investigated. To ensure best welding performance the seam properties are evaluated. The results serve as a tool for the conceptual design of exhaust devices and as a data acquisition for computational modeling of contamination of the working area with hazardous aerosols.
