Conclusions 1. The large series of investigation carried out and the intensive search for rational design solutions, enabled a number of advanced solutions to be developed relating to the arrangement and design of the underground structures of the Nurek hydroelectric station, resulting in a substantial economy of resources and a reduction in construction time. 2. It is necessary to continue investigations and design developments for the further improvement of hydraulic structures, particularly in the area of utilization of the bearing characteristics of a rock mass.
