Utilization of Paper Sludge Ash in Lime Based Geopolymer Concrete: An Experimental Study
In past researches, it is indicated that the usage of industrial waste materials is the better approach to make the sustainable concrete industry. Cement manufacturing industry is one of biggest industry which emits large amount of Co2 that’s roughly estimated as 7% of green house to gas to the earth’s atmosphere. Some of the challenges related mechanical and durability properties of conventional concrete are addressed by the geopolymer concrete. This geopolymer concrete consists of a type of inorganic polymer which has silica content and low calcium oxide content. Also the usage of lime on the concrete enhances the strength property of the geopolymer concrete. In this aspect, the experimental work is conducted with the utilization of paper sludge ash in the proportions of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% in the lime based geopolymer concrete. The specimens of size 150 mm × 150 mm × 150 mm were casted, cured in the ambient temperature against 7, 14 and 28 days. These specimens are tested to arrive the compressive strength, split tensile strength and water absorption properties. Appropriate discussions were made based on the experimental test results in the representation of tables and graphs. It is concluded that, 25% of paper sludge ash in the lime based geopolymer concrete is found to be optimum in enhancing those mechanical and durability properties.
