Thermal Comfort and Adaptive Behaviors in Medical Buildings: A Literature Review
Thermal comfort in medical buildings is more complex than in ordinary buildings. The purpose of this article is to review the literature on human thermal comfort in the medical building environment and related adaptability studies. It also discusses some typical research cases worldwide. From the review, the paper concludes that identifying different thermal comfort conditions among different occupants in medical buildings is essential. Protocols for spatial design for healthcare-related institutional facilities deserve a sophisticated understanding of the patients’ needs in every way so that architects and designers can help to design a better thermal environment for rehabilitation. In addition, it is found that there is a lack of a framework enabling multidisciplinary investigations, which is considered essential for the study of thermal comfort in medical buildings.
