Hydrogen Bonding onto Microcrystalline Surfaces within Anodized Porous Silicon Crystals Studied by Infrared Spectroscopy
Abstract Hydrogen atoms chemisorbed to porous silicon(PS) during its anodization in HF solution have been investigated by means of infrared(IR) spectroscopy. Because of its huge internal microcrystalline-surface area, IR transmission spectra were easily measured in a region from 400 to 4000 cm-1 by a conventional method. Observed spectra were characterized by clear absorption bands, which were assigned to be due to stretching, bending, wagging and rocking modes of the Si-H vibrations. The stretching band located at ~2l00cm-1 was composed of three subbands which could further be deconvoluted into 9 components through measuring second derivative spectra. From results on both hydrogen desorption from the PS film and partial oxidations of the PS films, the observed fine structure can be considered to originate from the vibrations of isolated monohydrides and dihydrides and of three types of their mixtures. The assignment is discussed with the structure of the PS film.
