Magnetoresistive Effects in the Upper Critical Fields of Heavy Fermion Superconductors
Abstract The large magnitudes and unusual temperature dependences of the upper critical fields Hc2 of heavy fermion superconductors (HFSC) have been difficult to explain in terms of traditional pairbreaking theories such as the WHHM model1−6. The anomalous Hc2 of UBe13 has, in particular, been taken as a manifestation of the field dependence of normal state parameters such as the electronic specific heat coefficient γ, magnetic susceptibility χ, and electrical resistivity ρ, or odd-parity superconducting pairing interactions2. Although the potential influence on Hc2 of the field dependences of γ and χ cannot be ignored, they are generally less pronounced than that of ρ, at least for T ≈ Tc(H=0) ≡ Tco (Ref. 3).
