Heavy Electron Metals and Anisotropic Superconductors
Abstract Two topics are discussed. Firstly, the strong spin correlations in almost localized Fermi liquids are found to be sensitive to the distribution of occupied Bloch states. Further these correlations disappear when the occupied states are evenly distributed over the band which corresponds to temperatures above the effective Fermi temperature. Secondly, the application of an external uniaxial stress can split the normal-superconducting transition into two or possibly more transitions and thereby help to identify the precise symmetry of the superconducting state.
