NUMERICAL MODELLING OF FLOW TOWARDS A WELL IN A TWO LAYER AQUIFER
Numerical analysis of unsteady flow towards a well fully penetrating both the layers of a two-layer aquifer has been presented. The aquifer layers have different hydraulic characteristics and are separated by the interface which allows unrestricted cross flow. A discrete kernel method has been used to find the contribution of each aquifer layer to the pumped discharge and drawdown in the well. The discrete kernels have been obtained using USGS three-dimensional groundwater flow model developed by McDonald and Harbaugh (1988).
