Thomas Church) Landscape Architect, Maybeke's: Landscapes and The Donnell and Eckbo Gardens are all based on documents in the University of California at Berkeley's Environmental Design Archives. This is the second largest architectural archive in the United States, surpassed only by Columbia University's Avery Architectural Library. The Berkeley archive is international in scope, containing drawings and related documentation from renowned architects and landscape architects including Gertrude Jekyll, Beatrix Jones Farrand, Greene & Greene, and any others. It is particularly strong in twentieth-century regional material, and within that niche it has a large and growing collection of what is often referred to as ‘mid-century modernism’. Although the material is regularly consulted by scholars and widely exhibited and published, it is appropriate for the college and the archive to begin their own series of publications.
