Performance Under Optimum-Start Control
Optimum start/stop controls are claimed to have achieved 15 per cent fuel savings in intermittently-occupied buildings. Detailed monitoring of government office buildings by the UK Building Research Establishment has revealed serious defects in the actual performance of the earlier stop/start controls, defects which are not entirely corrected by their micro-electronic successors. The performance of modern algorithms could be improved further, and a method is proposed for performance assessment by a practical minimum performance standard for the optimiser software of 'computerized' systems.
