Fostering a Sense of Belonging: Diversity Equity and Inclusion as a Strategic Choice
To foster high levels of inclusiveness, the principles of DEI should be incorporated in every aspect of a library, from interactions with customers to hiring and staffing processes. Without a structured approach, this task can seem overwhelming. This paper demonstrates how Vaughan Public Libraries enshrined DEI into its Strategic Plan, enabling staff to build it into their decision-making, and how the library remade processes to generate understanding and be more representative of the diversity within its community.
