A new method for determining the thermophysical properties of building materials
In the present paper a new transient short-time method was explained characterised by an analytic solution of the heat transfer equation for infinite plane plates. For that purpose a thin heating foil placed symmetrically between two identical plane plate samples produces a transient temperature field under boundary conditions of first kind. After definite time the heating process must be interrupted and the cooling begins under the same boundary conditions. If the heating time and the cooling time are equal, a simple approximate solution of the heat transfer equation is possible. For non-absolute measurements one of two identical plates can be replaced by an etalon of well-known thermal conductivity. Besides the thermal conductivity the diffusivity and the specific heat of samples can be determined. The measuring process consists of measuring the heat flux through the samples and the temperatures in the heating foil after heating and cooling. The applicability to the described method is demonstrated by two examples.
