Design of uplift foundations (overhead lines)
Deals with a method of foundation design, based on the use of a site apparatus combining a dynamic penetrometer with a shear-vane, subjected to sudden loads, i.e. foundations for intermediate towers. The foundations for angle or terminal towers which are subjected to permanent stresses are not covered. A critical assessment of the usual techniques of foundation installation is discussed. Concepts of soil mechanics concerning soil classification and the measurement of their properties are given.
