Tunneling system and process for small diameter shield tunneling method (D1200-M2)
To construct tunnels which can accommodate conduits for telecommunication cables, the hume pipe jacking method has been used. The applicability of this method is limited with regard to soil conditions and excavation distance. To solve the problems, the small diameter tunneling method (D1200-M2) which has a computer controlled system and an automated lining system with resin mortar casting in place has been developed. Two experimental constructions have shown that long and curved tunnels can be constructed using this method without the need for any human labor in the tunnel, with remarkable improvements in work safety, feasibility and construction quality.
