Performance of electric transmission structures during earthquakes
This paper describes ongoing research to determine the significance of seismic loading on a high-voltage electric transmission line tower/conductor structural system. The purpose of the research is to compare the seismic member forces to member forces obtained using standard wind, ice, and unbalanced longitudinal tension load criteria. A review of the historical earthquake performance of electric transmission towers is presented along with a summary of the results of a literature search.
