Impact of wind on a high-rise tower
To illustrate the effect of wind on the breakdown of a lift in a high rise tower, the case of the CCTV Tower in Beijing, China, is considered. With a height of 405 meters, the CCTV tower is subject to strong wind which causes the building to bend and vibrate. This, in turn, will have a vital impact on the tower's lift system. Considering the bending and deformation of a high rise tower caused by strong wind and based on the analysis of the data on vibration and observation results, the swaying of a high rise tower is found to be pernicious to the elevator system. The elevator system cannot stand any instant impact on its parts and components in the transverse or horizontal direction.
