Wind noise in the lift hall of a high-rise tower
The problem of wind noise in lift hoistways due to accelerated airflow through stairways, lobby and lift waiting halls of tall buildings is discussed. The noise is attributed to the difference in air pressure between the inside and outside of hoist ways. Experimental analysis suggests that climatic conditions, stack effects and construction structure of buildings contribute towards the noise. Whistling and screaming effects arising from it have been found to cause frequent breakdown of the systems to landing doors and disturb the environmental harmony in the building.
