Robot assisted tiling of glass mosaics with image processing
A computer integrated robotic system is presented for automatic tiling of glass mosaics based on image processing. Especially, vitreous glass mosaic type tiles with variety of shape and colours are very cheap decorative medium because of the easy progressive mass production. Presented robotic system allows the craftsmen to product large and extra ordinary mosaic figures by using computer image and glass mosaic tiles. For this purpose, software was developed to convert any computer image by using Borland C++ Builder 6.0 to mosaic picture image. The converted mosaic picture was processed by using a six degree of freedom Puma 500 robot. Two different mosaic tiling method can easily be performed to any plane with any orientation. The robots could be successfully utilized on tiling mosaics for faster and flexible production.
