Finite element analysis for imaging steel bars placed under a mild steel boundary using eddy current techniques
This paper reports on recent modelling results obtained using finite-element analysis for penetrating a magnetic field through steel boundary. Modelling of weak magnetic fields propagated through a 2 mm thick ferrous steel boundary has shown that alternating magnetic fields, extending to 13 kHz, can be detected. It has also shown that it is possible to image a 16 mm steel bar placed under a 1 mm mild steel sheet. Modelling results have shown that using Remote Field Eddy Currents it is possible to image steel wires wrapped around a mild steel pipe.
