The trend by vehicle designers is to reduce vehicle selling prices by using lower cost hydraulic components, which do more work without increasing power consumption. This could be achieved through the use of smaller hydraulic components operating at higher working pressures. The component manufacturers, therefore, are developing products rated at higher pressures while improving efficiency and reliability. This paper addresses the development of a family of external gear pumps rated at 4500 psi operating pressure.
