Swing control for trolley cranes on reclaiming ships
In this paper the swing control system of the crane apparatus on reclaiming ships is described. Bang bang control is the standard method for crane swing control. However, open loop control methods do not take into consideration the pitching of the crane apparatus. An improved open loop control method that allows for the pitching of the reclaiming ship on which the crane was mounted was developed. This new method was found to be efficient for swing control in computer simulations and in actual experiments. The simulation model includes the angular velocity of the pitching motion of the reclaiming ship as well as the mass of the trolley and the mutual response and shows, that fast damping of the motions is achieved. These results were confirmed by practical tests.
