The work of this research on the fatigue strength of orthotropic decks in bridges take place in an European inter-laboratory study. The Belgium part involves the calculation of the loading in order to realize variable amplitude tests and the realization of fatigue tests on welds between U-Stiffener and deck plate, and on bolted connexions between cross-beams and deck plates. Tests results give weld fatigue strength under wheel loadings of real road traffics taking into account an asphaltics coating. The welding is automatic with a lack of penetration of 1,5 to 2,5 mm. Tests on bolted joints point out the influence of lever effect on bolts fatigue strength.
