Beeinflussung regionaler Kaufkraftströme durch den Autobahnlückenschluß der A 49 Kassel - Gießen : zur empirischen Relevanz der "New Economy Geography" in wirtschaftsgeographischen Fragestellungen
This thesis intends to empirically verify the core-periphery-model of the New Economic Geographyʺ. This model investigates the impact of economies of scale and transport costs on the economy. It concludes that decreasing transport costs can lead to rising regional disparities. The empirical review considers as an example the retail business and the construction of new traffic routes in Northern Hesse. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses the core-periphery-model and, particularly, demonstrates that an empirically well founded model application is presently not possible. Given these problems, alternative explanation approaches have to be found which are accessible for an empirical application
