Novel, practical deionization technology
Rapid economic and population growth in the developing world is creating wealth and increasing expectations while simultaneously straining water supply and quality. This situation will reach crisis proportions during the next several decades, and innovative water treatment technologies will be required to meet the challenge. Electrically regenerable ion exchange (LINXμ by Pionetics Corp.) is an emerging technology that is particularly well‐suited for this challenge. This article describes the LINX deionization apparatus and process, its general design considerations, and how the technology compares with conventional ion exchange, electrodialysis, and reverse osmosis (RO) deionization technologies.
